Failure, Understanding, Care & Kunst – Manifestos as an Artist’s Working Tool

      10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25Online

Meet The Arctic Agency for Environmental Research Methodologies and Artistic Practice, a curatorial, arts and community project based in a 1960’s caravan based presently in Folkeparken, Tromsø, Norway, in collaboration with the Perspektivet Museum. Learn about how the practice embraces the overarching project Failure, Understanding, Care (& Kunst) as a manifesto to drive experimental practices. Curators Ruth Aitken and James S. Lee will present the project, which attempts to engage the artists they work with to integrate environmentally conscious limitations into their creative practices with the aim that these limitations will allow for new avenues, materials and techniques to be explored or developed within this process. Registration required. Free.

Ruth Aitken (b.1990) and James S. Lee (b.1986) are artists and curators based in Tromsø, Norway. Both were educated at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee, Scotland. Aitken (working often as Ruth & Alexander) currently runs the nomadic, artist-led organization Kurant. She is also a part of Polar Film Lab. Lee is working on a series of collaborative performances for 2021 in Tromsø, as well as continuing his studio practice including working on painting, sculpture and sound works. He was involved in many curatorial projects in his native Scotland, part of the artist-led space GENERATORprojects and curator-in-residence for David Dale Gallery, Glasgow.
